Why You Need A Lawyer When you Purchase A Business
Whether you wish to start a business from the ground up or acquire an ongoing enterprise make sure you consult with a lawyer first. Many agreements go into purchasing a business. Whether you are leasing the premises or buying the building or land you must have someone review and revise the necessary documentation. A business or real estate agent or broker is not an attorney. By law, they are not allowed to give you legal advice. An agent or broker will only make a commission if you go forward with the purchase. Make sure you call us to review your documents, contracts and transactions before you sign anything. Unfortunately, clients often come to us after they have signed the initial offer because a broker or agent has told them they do not need an attorney until they get to escrow but by the time you reach escrow it is too late to fine tune your agreement. In most cases, signing that initial agreement, commits you to make the purchase. Make sure you have an attorney who represents only your interests review your transaction.
